Posture and Positioning

1 - Introduction

One of the very first things you should consider when playing any rhythm game is your comfortability. This primarily includes good body posture, positioning of your device, and playing location. Neglecting these areas may cause discomfort or muscle pain and lead to less overall enjoyment. Do note that handheld positioning will be covered in the future.

2 - Positioning

The most ideal location to play mobile rhythm games is at a table, where your arms can float comfortably without having to stretch very far to reach the device, and managing the curvature of your back is easiest. Due to the sliding of devices (which can be remedied with anti-slip mats), some may opt to play on their bed or lap, both of which are common for more casual players.

3 - Posture

When moving around to tap notes on the screen, your movement should primarily come from your shoulders and elbows, not your wrists. While having movement in your wrists while playing is okay, only pivoting from the wrists can cause pain and even permanent damage.

As for your hands and fingers, their movement should normally be relaxed and fluid, not tense–your stamina will decrease much quicker otherwise. Although tensing them up can be useful in achieving faster tapping speed if needed.

Warning

If any of your muscles begin to hurt or cramp, please stop playing immediately and reconsider your posture and technique.
